Long time no post... again

It has been some time since I posted on this blog. And yes, I’ve said that many times before. I’ve been quite busy with other things in my life, and my job is taking up a lot of my spare time unfortunately… ;)

I’ve been doing some research in building a new site (well, not really new, since I don’t have a site…). Also looking into building a portfolio, with the option for you to buy a picture or two, if you like.

While I’m writing here I might as well post a picture. I shot this one in March of this year.

Caves in Bemelen

Actually it is a quarry, dug by man. It was the second time I visited this place and didn’t get the light I wanted. Next time I have to leave home earlier!

Dragonflies

These dragonflies have been here for ages, but I never took the time to visit this spot. In the background you see a crane, where they are constructing a tunnel. The ponds had to be moved to make place for the tunnel mouth.

Hoofdwacht

The Hoofdwacht is situated on one of the most famous squares of the Netherlands, the Vrijthof in Maastricht. It was built in 1736, but had to be rebuilt in 1774 because the foundations were bad. It was used as a military command center, even until 2006, when the municipality of Maastricht bought the building. It is now used for exhibitions.

Umbrellas

People do look strange when you’re setting up your tripod. “What’s he up to?”, you know they’re thinking. And then, as if deliberate, they stop walking, or look inside the windows of the shops, forcing you to wait before taking your shots. Well, at least it gives you time to check you camera settings and composition!

This is a passageway between the old city centre and a new shopping centre annex city offices. There used to be houses here. In the far corner you see a timber framing facade (post-and-beam construction) dating from the 15th century.

Interactive Presentation Pen

Now this looks interesting: a pen you can use to draw on your laptop screen. Well, not literally. I just wonder what this will do to your screen…

Sint Martinuskerk

Trying out the scheduled posting in Wordpress.

The Sint Martinuskerk (Saint Martins Church). It was built in 1857-8, by the architect Pierre Cuypers, who is most famous for building the Amsterdam Central Station and the Rijksmuseum. He designed more than 100 churches, of which some 70 were built.

Maastricht by night

Updating (still) at a very low pace…

A shot almost straight from the camera, just some minor sharpening and levels adjustment. Click the image for a much larger version!

Königswinter

Another two shots of our visit to Königswinter, Germany, a couple of weeks ago. The first one shows the Saint Remigius Church. It’s to bad they put all those ugly signs in front of nice buildings. I had a lot of trouble by the way getting rid of the chromatic aberration in this shot.

And another shot of the ruins of the castle on the Drachenfels (Dragon’s Rock). The castle was built between 1138 and 1167 by the Archbishop Arnold I of Cologne for the protection of Cologne to the south. It was slighted in 1634.

Münster Basilica

The Münster Basilica in Bonn, Germany. Unfortunately the weather was not very good, with a very cloudy sky and it was rather cold. We couldn’t enter the church, because a service was beginning, so we came back an hour later. Unfortunately I didn’t get very good pictures inside, they shut off the lights and were quite unfriendly actually!
